What's Becca Happy About

So I’ve seen this done on a lot of Blogs lately and so I decided to try it. These things make me happy this week and not in any particular order.

1. My new Twilight DVD.

I am not going to admit how many times I’ve watched this since I got it at the midnight release party at Borders(Ryan surprised me on our date Friday night). I felt really old going to a party where there were mostly 15 year old screaming fans. But I at least got to read the Directors Notebook without having to buy it.

2. Easter Peanut M&M’s
Technically I am not supposed to eat nuts with my braces but I just can’t resist. The best part is the kids don’t like them because of the nuts. Yea! More for me.

3. Flower cup

I love my new flower cup from target

4. Chore charts
Yesterday I made new charts for the kids and they are a lifesaver. Since moving we have had a hard time getting on a normal schedule. I was tired of hounding them to get everything done.

5. Buttons, buttons, whose got the buttons

We have also started something new with buttons. I got this idea from someone in my old ward. It is more for the little ones but everyone loves it. Each time the kids listen, give service, do something without being asked, be kind, etc. they get to put a button in the jar I have. If they are rude or don’t listen they have to take a button out of the jar. When the jar is filled they get to go to the store and pick out a new toy. It has worked wonders. We have a much more positive home.

6. Tax Refund soon
I thought this was funny. Tax season is the best when you get a refund.

7. Baths and Freedom
I love clean dogs. They are much more pleasant to be around. I have been really nervous to let the dogs roam free in the house. I have been working with them and they are doing really well. I think they are much more difficult to capture pictures of than the kids.

8. Quiet time interrupted
So Sunday after church I tried to find a quiet spot to read. We have a strange shaped living room and the only place for the gigantic bean bag is behind the couch. A perfect place or so I thought. After about five minutes I had all the kids jumping on me. Sarah wanted to take a picture.

9. Coupons
I have been learning the art of couponing. I have been wanting to do this for a long time and since moving I have been more motivated. Especially since the groceries are much more expensive here. I don’t really know what I’m doing. But I love to see the savings I have made so far.

10. The Laundromat

Now doing laundry doesn’t really make me happy, but in this case when our dryer broke last week and our landlord couldn’t get it fixed right away, I had to go to the Laundromat and I tried to be happy about it(which I wasn’t). It was an interesting experience. I had to try and keep my mind off of the fact that other peoples unmentionables were in the washers and dryers, before mine were. I succeeded by bringing my Twilight book. That book tends to keep my mind off of a lot of things. The happy part was that I got all of the laundry done in two and a half hours.

So Cute!!

Washington DC Temple

What a beautiful temple. The most amazing scene is when you come around the beltway and see the temple on the hill it looks like it is sitting on top of the trees.

Star struck

So Ryan likes to play jokes on me all the time. I used to be really gullible. But being around him so much I am learning to second guess the outrageous things he says. Like the time he called me right before we were set to move and told me he had been layed off because they had to make unexpected cut backs and since he was the most recently hired he was the first to go. Ha Ha, very funny I told him. 5 or 6 years ago I would probably have been freaking out. There was the time when we were in high school and he told me we had to break up and was playing an April Fools joke on me (I'm still trying to come up with a good come back for that one). So when Ryan called yesterday and told me your never going to guess who I met and says Brad Pitt I did not believe him at first. He was working in DC yesterday and while riding in an elevator to one of the law offices he is remodeling he turns to see none other Brad Pitt standing right next to him. When Brad realizes Ryan recognizes him he gets that grin on his face you know the one that melts millions of girls hearts(not that I am claiming to be one or anything, OK so I am). They talk for a minute, shake hands and exit the elevator . Ryan said he was very nice. Apparently Brad is in DC to talk to congress about all of the work he is doing in New Orleans. So needless to say I was not the one who got to meet him or shake his hand, but I think I was more awe struck than Ryan was.

Beautiful Snow

So even though I have been complaining about the cold weather and it took me 30 min. just to clean the snow off of my suburban. I cannot deny how beautiful it looks outside. The kids have loved playing outside and building their snow forts for the ultimate snowball fight.

I didn't have any pictures of Sarah. I did get her name in the snow though, and yes that is Spencer without a coat. He is a brave one.

My snow covered suburban. This was when I was only about half way done cleaning the snow off. I even broke the snow scraper and I had to use a shovel to get all of it off. I had never experienced that before. I will definately have to get better tools for next time.

Yesterday

Yesterday it snowed 8 inches. Yesterday was a beautiful day with the snow coming down and the kids were home from school. Yesterday was my worst day here so far. Yesterday was my Mom's graduation day from this earth. Yesterday she's been gone longer than I knew her. Yesterday I couldn't write what I wanted to. Yesterday I was sad.

I am extremely homesick. When I was a kid I would get really homesick every time I would be gone from home for any length of time. I thought since I am an adult I can surely handle any feelings of homesickness, boy was I wrong. You would think since my Mom has been gone for 15 years that yesterday would have been easier. I have not had a day like this for a long time. I completely blame it on being 2500 miles from home. There is not a day that goes by that I do not think about my Mom and the amazing example that she has left for me and my family. I think she was just to good for this world. This is a tribute I wrote about my Mom for a book my sister is compiling. It explains everything that I could put into words about her. There are also many other feelings that I could not express into words. I am so thankful for the gospel and the knowledge it brings to my life that we will someday be with her again. That we will hopefully not have any empty chairs in heaven. This was the only way I could bear yesterday. Mom on her wedding day. June 1956

Memories of Mom
By Rebecca

There are so many memories that I have of Mom. Some that are probably not even my own but being so young when she got sick and passed away. I have grown into adulthood hearing others memories of her and so I see her through Dad’s and many of my brothers and sisters eyes, as well as my own.
Mom very rarely called me Becca; she always called me by my full name Rebecca. My very first memory of Mom was when we were either stranded or just stopped to camp out at the park in Kanab, Utah. She used to wear these bright colored polyester outfits and while she was cooking our meal over the fire she somehow backed up and got to close to the fire and her polyester pants suit caught on fire and left a hole on her rear end. She was amazing maybe I was too young to realize the trauma of the event but I remember her still smiling through the ordeal.
We had many memories in Kanab. They always seemed to involve a broken down car. One such trip we were stuck during the summer for several days and we got a hotel room. The room was stifling the air conditioning seemed broken but Mom refused to complain. We decided to stay somewhere else the next day and when we checked out, mentioned that the air was broken in that room. They were shocked and said it was the coldest hotel room because it had its own air. The manager came as we were checking out and told us that there was a switch we had to turn on and showed us where it was and sure enough the air worked. Mom didn’t like complaining.
One thing that mom always called me was a ragamuffin. Now if you’ve never heard this word it means that you look like you’re dressed in rags. After Six older sisters of hand me downs what did she expect me to look like. When she would tell me to get dressed to go somewhere and see the result of my fashion challenged wardrobe she was usually upset with the ensemble that I chose. I even have the embarrassing pictures to prove it.
Even when she was scolding you, you knew Mom loved you. One time she asked me to come and help her with the dishes and I have this strange quirk that whenever my hands go in hot water I have to go to the bathroom. So this particular time I tried to leave and go and she thought I was just trying to get out of helping her and she swatted my rear and I wet my pants on the kitchen floor because I was so upset. I remember her feeling really bad.
I loved the summer she had classes for us four younger girls. She taught sewing and baking and I’m sure there were others but I only remember these two. She taught us how to make care bear cakes and how to use the sewing machine.
I always loved the one on one time I had with Mom. One of my favorite memories is calling on schools for the supplies she would try to sell them. Everyone else was in school so I got to go everywhere with her. We would get cinnamon twists from bashas or stop at Wendy’s for lunch and she would tell me that the car just drove itself into the restaurant so we could eat there. When I started school I would get to leave school during the lunch break and come home to eat lunch with her. She always had something ready for me when I walked in the door.
I used to have many nightmares as I was growing up and she would always let me come and lay by her, there were times that I could tell she did not want me in her bed and so she would only give me a sliver of space in the bed until I was so uncomfortable I would give up and go back to my own bed. When morning came she would cheerfully sing to us wake up you sleepy head. She would always prepare a hot breakfast before school.
The sunflower trips were always amazing. She would stay up all night just to make the trip enjoyable for everyone else. My favorite part of the trip though was the afternoons when the work was done for a while and I would lay by her on a blanket while she read or napped. I loved being by her side. She used to read me the book Keep Your Mouth Closed Dear or Fox on Socks and get mixed up with the words. She loved to read. She shared her love for reading with me. She also used to read Anne if Green Gables to us, one of her favorites.
She loved it when you would play with her hair. I remember spending hours combing, styling, and just running my finger through it for her. She would always let me sit on her lap during church and I would play with her face or she would rub my hands, and then she would start to fall asleep and she would tell me she was just resting her eyes. She did that a lot.
Mom always tried to make us be better than we were. I was getting ready for school one morning and as I kissed her and said goodbye she told me I was missing something I asked her what it was and she said, my smile.
Mom was truly an amazing person. Some of my favorite memories of her are her kindness, compassion, love, hugs, smiles, her laugh, her love for our Dad, her willingness to serve, her spirit, her endurance, her healing hands, her curlers (I have them and whenever I open the box they still smell like her), her inviting home, her stories, her bed, her quilts, her everything. She truly was and is now an angel mother. She was too good for this world. She felt guilty for leaving all of us. The Lord blessed her to stay and raise us until he needed her back home to help prepare Heaven for the legacy she taught such an amazing example to. I hope someday I can be as good as she truly is.

Ground Hog

So I have always wondered if the ground hog is really just a joke or if the predictions his shadow makes are real or not. Because I have never lived any where other than AZ where spring comes early no matter what the groundhog says. I have always been curious. Well this morning I found out.
I know it is not a lot of snow but a sure sign of the groundhog being right for he did predict 6 more weeks of winter on Feb. 2nd. Well there is only two more weeks left. Hopefully I wont have to come after the groundhog. Remember Phil anyone?
